The beam which supports the roof rafters weighed about 800 lbs. Needless
to say, it was quite the "back breaking" job, just to get it from the street, into
the house. Then we had the job of getting it up to where it needed to be. A
"temporary shaft" was built to hoist the beam up with the help of a winch. As
the beam went up, 2x4's were installed to temporarily support the ends of
the beam. Once the beam was leveled we installed temporary 6x6 posts.
